In the year 1903, some of the old records concerned with the formation of the Coimbatore Club were accidentally discovered. Fortunately, the important documents were in a sufficiently good state of preservation as to be legible. The earliest papers found go back to the year 1859 at which time there was a book club in existence.

1904

Built in 1873 bythe British on 5. 5 acres of land, The Coimbatore Club was primarily a destination for the planters working in many of the scenic tea and coffee estates in the mountains that surround Coimbatore. It started with 31 members all of whom were only British as it was with all Colonial Clubs. The first Indian member was admitted in 1961 and since then the membership has swelled, encompassing a cosmopolitan set of members.
